THE GOLDEN girl of British Athletics, Dina Asher Smith, showed that she is approaching her best form, prior to her injury, as she breezed into the semi final of the 200metres. She won her heat in 22.73seconds. She said: “I’m so happy to be here. I really can’t emphasise how grateful I was to be selected and that I’m now in decent shape coming into these championships.

“To be competing in front of a home crowd is so special, but to do it after the season I’ve had is really, really good.

“Fingers crossed, this can be a good championships for me.”

Bianca Williams qualified as one of the fastest losers and appeared to be disappointed that she did not go through automatically with a time of 23.30seconds. She said:’I know I’m better than that, I’ve run so much better this season, even to qualify here, I’ve shown such good form. I just feel like I’ve let myself down, let my Mum down, my partner down, my coach down – everyone that supports me. They expected better than this and I expected better myself.

I just feel embarrassed more than anything. I don’t want to come out with excuses, I’m better than that – it just wasn’t my day.”

Shannon Hylton was not so fortunate as she ran 22.73s in her heat and missed out on qualification.  She said: “I’m very disappointed, that was one of the slowest times for me this season. I got out then stumbled a bit on the top bend. I was doing okay then tried to kick and I didn’t really have it, I tied up a bit.
