JOSHUA OLUWAYEMI

Tottenham Hotspur’s third goal keeper Joshua Oluwayemi has received a late call up for the Nigeria’s friendly match against Mexico on Sunday in Los Angeles. The 20 year old who plays for the Under 23 Spurs team was promoted to the first team squad by Jose Mourinho before he departed. Although the Super Eagles team is mainly made up of local based players, it would still be a great opportunity for Joshua to showcase himself. When Mafisportsmedia asked him how he felt he said: “It is an honour to play for my country, my family and I are proud. Not a lot of people get to represent their country. I just plan to make the best of it and take the moment and enjoy it.”

In the call up letter sent to Joshua by the NFF, seen by Mafisportsmedia, they apologised to him for the late call up but went on further to say “We believe he would be a great addition to the team.” They say the apple rarely falls further than the tree. And so it is in the case of Joshua, whose father was a goalkeeper during his University days in Nigeria. His younger brother Tob isi a reserve keeper with Celtic and has just signed a new 2 and a half year deal.
