After a disappointing showing in the 100m at these World Championships, in which she failed to qualify for the final, Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor has qualified for the final of the Long Jump with a distance of 6.51m.  She was 8th out of the 12 qualifiers. However, she will need to jump well over 7 metres to have a chance of winning a medal.  Whether she is capable of achieving that feat remains to be seen. She won a Bronze medal in 2013 and has also won a Bronze medal at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008.

She remains Nigeria’s best hope of coming away from these championships with a medal, in what has been yet another disappointing showing. None of the qualifiers jumped the qualifying distance, which was 6.70m.

Her team mate Ese Brume, failed to qualify for the final as she finished in 17th place with a jump of 6.38m.  The final will take place on Friday. Two of the main medal contenders Tianna Bartoletta and Britney Reese both qualified.
